Last night we had a photo exhibition/storytelling event in a laneway in Surry Hills.

It was a partnership between Neighbourhood Matters, Surry Hills & Valleys, Sydney Alliance, artist AstraHoward (Village Voices) and other local community organisations and people like Surry Hills Neighbourhood Centre, Streetlevel and Belvoir St theatre.

Our purpose was to hear the stores of locals as they experienced COVID-19.
We heard stories of struggle, hope, reorientation and survival. We heard from charities, local businesses, disability advocates and international students all impacted by the pandemic.

Our hope is that we meet again early next year to see what this local group can do to keep listening to the stories of the voices of those who are not usually heard and then take action to bring about change in our neighbourhood and city.
